Is New Good?

We often go for the new stuffs in life, new bag, new pen, new hi-fi, new tv, new computer, new friends, new house, etc... But is new good?

I brought my old laptop to the computer shop to look for an upgrade for the RAM last week. Upon seeing the laptop, the eyes of the salesperson went wide open!! Yes, no kidding!! I should have taken a photo of him and send to Star Newspaper, maybe I will get RM50 for the photo!!!

Then he asked me, are you sure you want to upgrade the RAM for this? The RAM is not cheap you know. "Yea" I replied.

Then he asked again "How old is it actually?"

I replied "6 years already.."

He said "Then why you want to upgrade? Just change a new laptop la"

The thing is, my Acer Travelmate 290 Intel Centrino laptop has been of great service to me for the past six years. It's loyalty cannot be questioned!! It hasn't broken down before and work well for me helping me complete my assignments and work and even providing me with some entertainment. Even though it's spec no longer allows me to play all the new games, but nonetheless, I can still surf net and youtube and crunchyroll and listen to my favorite songs and blogging which is more than enough.

So, I really have no intention of disposing it, selling it for a new laptop. It would be rather heartless for me to just go for a new one and forget it when it has been so nice to me all this while. Frankly, I'm rather grateful that I have this laptop, because the shop that sold me the laptop last time told me that laptops don't normally last very long, it's life is about 2.3 to 3 years and it's specs are outdated after 18 months as that is the cycle to produce a new laptop by the companies.

Maybe because of that, this shop's salesman was kind of shock when I said my laptop is 6 years old!! LOL~~~ And still working!!!! I've also heard from other friends that their laptops are either dead of half dead prompting them to get new ones already even after 1.5 years only. I guess Acer really does produce very good computers (Note: I'm not advertising for them, just that I really think so).

Back to the topic, "Is New Good?".. I guess maybe yes, maybe no... New means you get to see new things, new characteristics, new design, new personality, new advances, but at the same time, there is also that uncertainty... Maybe it will not work, maybe it will breakdown, maybe things just won't work out for you and the new stuff.

Sometimes, old can be rather nice too... Don't you think so... hehe... Love you Acer Travelmate 290 Intel Centrino!!! Hahaha... I don't care, I will sayang you, so will upgrade you a bit to boost your energy, so you won't feel too tired when I overuse you sometimes.. hehe...
