不知他是睡;
月长是个胀,
月半是个胖,
太师秦夫人,
怀抱大肚在花园逛,
不知她是胀,
不知她是胖。

Can Two Person of Opposing Concepts Co-exist Together?

I couldn't understand something from a conversation I had on Friday (15/15/09) until I watched the movie Angels and Demons.

At the start of the movie, when Professor Langdon turned the ambigram of "Illuminati" around, it suddenly came to me about the concept of two matters existing as one.

Note: Ambigram is a word that can be inverted to show another word. An ambigram actually contains two words (the same word/different words) which co-exist as one word. The first diagram shows the word "ambigram", if you turn the word 180 degrees, you will notice that it still shows the word "ambigram"; the second diagram shows "The End", but if you turn the word 180 degrees, you will see the word "Puzzle"... WikipediaTo further explain this, I will have to use the famous Ying and Yang to clarify everything.

The main question is:- How can two person of opposing concepts co-exist without destroying one another?

The Ying & Yang Theory involves two matters of totally (100%) opposing characteristics co-existing with each other. Both of the matter anti or counters the other completely just as white and black which are of total opposite of each other.

When this two matters meet each other, there are a few possible outcomes. As in A, the white matter engulfs and overcome the black matter producing only one white matter in the end without leaving any trace that there were two matters in the start. Similarly in B, the black matter overwhelms and erase the presence of the white matter. But in C, the white and black matter incorporates and assimilates into each other ideally to form a new homogenous matter which is the grey matter; but this is an extremely ideal situation which only occur in theory which is not practical in real life as both matters lose their original characteristics completely and adopt a totally new characteristic (grey).

When the two matters (black & white) meet, there will be a clash of their characteristics as they are totally in opposite. Both of them hold on firmly to completely different believes, views, concepts and philosophies. Both trust that their judgement and mentality are true and correct to the best of their knowledge and experience. At worse case, both may even think each others' thoughts are wrong and flawed while only their own philosophies are correct. Hence, the meet of these two totally different matter (person), would cause conflicts as both parties mentalities and mindset clashes upon each other. Both party may try to instil their own concepts on the other or they may just respect each others' differences. In anyway, the line of differences between both parties will be extremely obvious as seen below.

Both parties may also manage to breakthrough the center barrier which divides both of them, causing the other party to accept his own concepts and ideas (E.g. the white concepts are now in the black area, vice versa). But as both of them still strongly believe in their own concepts and philosophies, they are not totally engulfed by the other's ideas and concepts. The total displacement of one party's believes with another party's concept does not occur also because of the mutual respect both parties have for each other, meaning the white will not forcefully make the black adopt all the white concepts and vice versa. Even though both parties still strongly believe that their concepts are correct, but they will respect the other party's believes. They will also accept the fact that something we see as wrong, may actually be correct to the other party. We normally make the judgement of what is right and what is wrong based on our own experience, but we must also admit that our experience is just solely our own experience and not the world's experience (there are 5 billion people living on Earth; so how much is our own personal experience in percentage compared to the world? Can our own experience be a guide to what is right and wrong for the entire world? So, can one person say based on his own experience, this is right and that is totally flawed and wrong?!?!)

At the same time, besides allowing the other party to instil his ideas and concept onto oneself. One party can also voluntarily adopt the concepts of the other party. That is why there is a small circle carrying the color of the other party in each area (E.g. The black adopting the white circle). Hence finding a balance between accepting the other party's idea, and teaching the other party your own idea. If all things go well, both parties will be able to find a harmony between both of them. But for this to occur, both parties must try to let go of the believe that he is always correct in all his concepts while the other party's concepts are all wrong and respect the other party's believes. If you keep thinking that everything you know is right and everything the other party knows is wrong, obviously, you will never be able to accept the other party's idea and always find the other party's concepts/ideas bothering and irritating. Right and wrong sometimes can be rather hard to distinguish as some people like to say.
Back to the question again, is it possible for two people of opposite ideas to co-exist? Looking at the ambigram and Ying & Yang theory... Yes... But the criteria stated above must 1st be achieved to allow this to occur. But if as long as one party continues to think that his own concepts and theory are correct and normal and is followed/obeyed by everybody, and continues to reject the thought that the other person's concepts are right in their own way, then this harmony and mutual respect between the two parties may never be achieved.
